Applying for a student visa to Europe can be complicated as each country has its own regulations. However, in general, the process and basic requirements will have some commonalities.
Long-term student visa (Schengen type D): This is the most common visa for students pursuing long-term programs such as undergraduate, postgraduate, or advanced courses lasting from a few months to a few years. This visa usually allows you to stay and travel within the Schengen area during your studies.
Short-term student visa (Schengen type C): For short-term courses, exchange programs or summer study abroad, usually less than 90 days.
Application for a European student visa usually includes the following documents:
Passport: Valid for at least 3-6 months after the intended date of departure from the Schengen area.
Visa application: Fill out completely and accurately according to the form of each country.
Letter of Admission: An official letter of acceptance from a reputable university or training institution in the country you wish to study abroad.
Proof of education: High school/university diploma, transcript, report card and related certificates.
Foreign language certificate: Depending on the requirements of the school and study program (eg: IELTS, TOEFL, ...).
Proof of financial means: Ensure that you have sufficient funds to cover your tuition and living expenses for the duration of your studies. This may include a savings account, bank statements, proof of your sponsor’s income, or proof of a scholarship.
Health insurance: Mandatory for the entire stay.
Other personal documents: CV, birth certificate, citizen identification card, passport photo.
Step 1: Prepare documents: Collect and notarize all necessary documents according to the requirements of the country you want to study abroad.
Step 2: Make an appointment and submit your application: Make an appointment at the Embassy or Consulate General of that country in Vietnam or through authorized application centers.
Step 3: Interview (if applicable): Some countries may require an interview to verify the information in the application.
Step 4: Receive results: Visa processing time usually takes from 3 to 8 weeks. You will be notified of the results by email or phone.
Country-specific requirements: Each European country has specific requirements for documentation and procedures. For example, the Netherlands requires universities to apply for a residence permit for students first, and then students can apply for a temporary visa.
Fees: Visa application fees can vary from country to country, usually ranging from 100-300 Euros.
Visa extension: Long-term student visas are usually valid for 1 year. After that, you need to apply for an annual extension based on your academic performance at school.
