Visa to visit relatives

This type of visa is usually a tourist visa or non-immigrant visa, but has additional special requirements regarding relationships and sponsorship from relatives.

I. Visa applicant's profile (people in Vietnam)

These are the basic documents to prove your identity, finances and ties in Vietnam:

• Personal documents:

  • Original passport with validity (usually over 6 months) and old passports (if any).

  • Visa application form filled out completely and accurately.

  • Passport photos according to the regulations of each Embassy (usually 3.5x4.5 cm or 5x5 cm).

  • Household registration book, Identity card/Citizen identification card, Birth certificate, Marriage certificate/Divorce decision (if any).

• Proof of employment and finances:

  • If you are an employee: Labor contract, Salary statement for the last 3-6 months, Leave application with confirmation from the company.

  • If you are a business owner: Business license, company bank account statement.

  • If retired: Pension book, pension card.

  • If you are a student: Student card, school confirmation letter.

• Financial proof:

  • Savings book (usually requires a certain balance, depending on the country).

  • Documents proving ownership of other assets such as real estate, cars (if any).

II. Profile of the inviter (relatives abroad)

This part of the application is important to prove the relationship between you and your relative, as well as their ability to sponsor:

• Original invitation letter: This letter must clearly state the purpose of the trip, expected length of stay and financial guarantee commitment (if any).

• Inviter's identification documents: Copy of passport, visa or permanent resident/citizen card.

• Documents proving relationship:

  • Birth certificates of both to prove parent-child relationship.

  • The old household registration book has both names.

  • Group photos, emails or text messages.

• Financial records of the inviter (if they are sponsoring):

  • Bank statement.

  • Proof of income, employment contract, etc.

III. Some important notes

• Translation and notarization: Most Vietnamese documents need to be translated into English or the language of the country you are visiting and notarized.

• Interview: Some countries require an in-person interview at the Embassy or Consulate. Thorough preparation and answering the interview confidently and honestly are key.

• Clear purpose: You must prove that the purpose of the trip is only to visit relatives and that you will return to Vietnam after the trip ends.
